Hanuman Jayanthi

Hanuman Jayanthi, marks a symbolic acceptance of the human race's peaceful co-existence with nature and the worship of an animal as a divine creature. It is celebrated to commemorate the birth of Hanuman, the monkey god widely venerated throughout India.

Hanuman was an ardent devotee of Rama, and is worshipped for his unflinching devotion to the god.

He is also known by the names Pavanasuta, Marutsuta, Mahavira (because he exhibited several heroic feats), Bajrangabali,Pavankumar, Balabhima and Maruti. Hanuman was the Avatara of Lord Siva.

Hanuman possessed devotion, knowledge, spirit of selfless service, power of celibacy, and desirelessness. He never boasted of his bravery and intelligence. The world has not yet seen and will not see in future also a mighty hero like Sri Hanuman. During his life,  he worked wonders and exhibited superhuman feats of strength and valour. He has left behind him a name which, as long as the world lasts, will continue wielding a great influence over the minds of millions of people.

It is believed that he who meditates on him and repeats his name will attain power, strength, glory, prosperity and success in life.

Worshipping the Monkey God
On Saturdays and Tuesdays many people keep fast in honor of Hanuman and give special offerings to him. In times of trouble, it is a common faith among Hindus to chant the name of Hanuman or sing his hymn ("Hanuman Chalisa") and proclaim "Bajrangbali Ki Jai" — "victory to thy thunderbolt strength". Once every year — on the full-moon day of Chaitra (April) at sunrise — "Hanuman Jayanti" is celebrated to commemorate the birth of Hanuman. Hanuman temples are among the most common public shrines found in India.

The Power of Devotion
The character of Hanuman teaches us of the unlimited power that lies unused within each one of us. Hanuman directed all his energies towards the worship of Lord Rama, and his undying devotion made him such that he became free from all physical fatigue. And Hanuman's only desire was to go on serving Rama. Hanuman perfectly exemplifies "Dasyabhava" devotion — one of the nine types of devotions — that bonds the master and the servant. His greatness lies in his complete merger with his Lord, which also formed the base of his genial qualities.

Hanuman (Anjaneya)

The monkey-God

Hanuman, the monkey God is considered Chiranjeevi (will live eternally).  He is strong, full of valour, with various skills and powers.  At the same time, he is wise, a great gnani, a yogi, a brahmachari.  He had the one thought only - that of serving his Lord Rama with utmost humility and devotion.  He is worshipped in the temples as Bhaktha Hanuman & Veera Hanuman.  He is seen seated humbly in front of Rama in the Rama sannidhis.  There are also separate temples for Hanuman.  As Bhaktha Hanuman, he is seen holding both hands together in prayer.  He is seen as Veera Hanuman, holding the mace in one hand and the sanjeevi Parvatham in the other.

Devotees are blessed with courage, valor, wisdom, gnanam.  He is very happy when he hears the Rama namam.  Hence repeating the Raama namam is the best way to get his blessings.

His life

Hanuman or Anjaneya is the son of Anjana Devi.  She was once a celestial maiden & was born as a monkey-woman as a result of a curse.  She was living happily with her husband Kesari.  When king Dasaratha performed a yagna praying for off-springs, he was yielded a pot of  payasam (pudding) from the yaga fire.  His wives shared the prasada & thus Rama, Lakshmana, Bharatha & Shatrugana were born.  A portion of this payasam was carried by the Lord of winds - Vayu Deva & fell in the hands of Anjana Devi and she gave birth to a lovely & strong son.  Since Vayu Deva was responsible for the payasam reaching Anjana, he is also considered the father of Hanuman.

He grew up as a strong & mischievous young lad.  He could travel as fast as the wind.  He mistook the glowing sun to be a fruit & flew upto the sky & reached for the sun.  Such was his might & will power even as a child.  Lord Indra was upset & struck Anjaneya with his thunderbolt (Vajraayudham).  Vaayu Deva was upset that his son was struck & he stopped blowing.  The whole world was in trouble without winds.  All the Gods offered various powerful boons to Anjaneya, thus making him more powerful & invincible than before.  Vayu Bhagavan was pleased & started his work again.

Anjaneya was causing trouble to the rishis & others, not really realizing the might of his powerful & playful actions.  The angered rishis cursed him that he would cease to realize & recognize his powers unless someone reminded him of it.  This calmed him down & he started his lessons with the rishis.  He wanted to learn from Surya Bhagavan who is eternally traveling.  The mighty Hanuman traveled with Surya at his speed and mastered all the scriptures.  As Guru dakshina,  Anjaneya agreed to serve Sugreeva, the son of Surya.  He thus became a trusted and valued minister of Sugreeva, a monkey king.

He played a major role in the happenings in Ramayana, the great epic. When Rama was banished from his kingdom Ayodhya by his mother Kaikeyi, he reached the forests with his wife Sita & brother Lakshman.   Hanuman met Rama & thereafter was with Rama forever.  When Sita Devi was abducted by Ravana, the demon king, he flew across the oceans & found Sita Devi in the Ashoka vanam in Lanka.  He consoled Sita Devi and set fire to Lanka, destroying many asuras.  He served as the emissary of peace to Ravana's court.  He assisted Rama in crossing the ocean by building the Sethu Bridge along with his vanara friends.  During the war he flew to bring the Sanjeevi mountain, full of medicinal herbs to revive Lakshmana who had fallen.  When the victorious Rama returned to Ayodhya & was crowned king, he continued to serve him, ever at his service.

A positive mind anticipates happiness, joy, health and a successful outcome of every situation and action. This was expanded and explained by Sister Sabita to the well-attended devotees at Sai Mandir to hear the talk on Positive thinking.

Atmic Vision is stunning in its virtuosity. This is made more possible with profound capacity to touch audience members with a pureness of joy by Annada (Butto) Prasanna Pattanaik - Bansuri, Dr. Paul Erhard - Double Bass, Muthu Kumar - Tabla. Some tracks have an upbeat, dancing feel while others send you off into a space of transient, imagery-filled peacefulness. Despite heavy rain, this program was well attended by the devotees, which were concluded with Aarathi and Mahaprasad. Sai Mandir helped Atmic vision in selling the audio cd's.
